This is the picture that I entered. It is about 50% cropped from the centre of the original. You might or might not like it, but the subject was marching up the street surrounded by other musicians with headgear on at a fair rate. Would a formal portrait have been more appropriate???

The judge: His comments were rather condescending. 'I think that you could have followed the musician and asked him to pose for you, that sort of person likes that sort of thing'. 'His beard is a bit lacking in detail'. And worst of all 'Keep trying!' @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I think photo judges must pass a rigid exam in condescension before getting their papers to practice. Remember, "Those that can, do. Those that can't, judge. I really like your picture. Everything in it works for me. It is alive. One may even see the A string vibrating and almost hear it. I only wish I could do that with my double bass. Mickey[/quote]

I like the picture, sure a portrait probably would look great also and maybe capture the guys character, but to me to see him strolling along among a crowd adds to the atmosphere of the photo Maybe thats why I never entered any photo competitions (apart from the fact Im not that good at photography) I know what I like and it more often then not doesnt reflect the judges views
