A short telephoto lens for the Exakta, a Feinmess Dresden Bonotar 105mm F4.5 aperture. A three element lens with a 10 blade aperture, made by Feinmess VEB who only made a couple of lens models in the 1950's. They were lens makers for other East German makes, and still make scientific equipment. They are a simple lens, but work fine, and suit portraiture and short telephoto subjects. They were made in M42 mounts as well as for the Altix. Should work well as a 210mm F4.5 for the Olympus Micro 4/5 digital camera, via an Exakta adaptor. Stephen.

In better condition than the pictures. Some tests on digital first, before a trial on the VX 1000.

Reversed the testing and used film first, colour neg, and results are impressive. No scanner at present, but I will re take on Digital as soon as I have time. Quite sharp and good colour range, and pleasant softness at full aperture, enough to use for portraits. 105mm is long enough to throw background neatly out of focus.

It was very considerate of the lens maker to have named a lens after these fine gentlemen and he described them perfectly. Well.....in Germany the boys were billed as Dick und Doof, which meant "Thick and the Stupid". Some of the funniest comedy films ever made.

Film collectors have found a load of Laurel and Hardy early sound films in Spanish......it was before reliable dubbing, so Hal Roach simply shot the whole short film again, from the start, with the boys reading the words from idiot boards. Some have changes in actors to popular Mexican stars, and often the end of the film was altered because Laurel had thought of a better joke during the Spanish shoot. Edgar Kennedy's accent in Spanish was so bad he was replaced in the Spanish versions. By the time German and French versions were needed the voices were dubbed by other actors.

In testing the Bonotar lens I found the results were fine on the Exakta VX1000, but then tried the Exakta RTL and found the results were poor at open aperture, distinctly softer, but also a bit worst at F8.
Checked out the lens mount on the VX1000, and the lens register is spot on at 44.7mm from film to flange, but the RTL is 44.8mm, .1 mm to much, (.0038 thousandth of an inch). It did not show on the standard lens, but the Bonotar has shown it out.
The flange must have been removed and not checked on replacing it on the camera body.
I carefully cleaned the body casting, and the back of the flange, and it has settled in at 44.7, the correct distance. I will try the RTL out again with both the Standard and the Bonotar, and I expect an improvement on both.
Shows that you cannot assume everything is in adjustment on a camera purchase.
