Thanks to John Farrell and his wonderful post from 2011, I've been able to take apart my Yashica YK, which has become my spring board to in depth repair of a camera.
The shutter will not fire, nor come open when set on 'B', while pressing on the now operating trigger. Its stuck tight.
The lens is a Copal Yashinon 1:2.8 f-4.5cm lens.. Inside with the outer lens screwed off, it states Copal -SV
I've tried several baths of lighter fluid, and a hot blower on it.. nothing is moving..
So it looks like I will have to take the lens apart and do a CLA. Did a search, but couldn't find a manual, parts breakdown or any info on its disassembly. Does anyone have some clues to a location or some information on its disassembly?
Meanwhile I was thinking.. DA.. realize I'm a newbie on repair, and before taking it all apart, how does this shutter get cocked?
Background:
Son, knows I'm into old film cameras... so somewhere he had picked up this old Yashia YK.. it had been dropped and shows a dent on the lens, where the filters would screw in, and on the side, where the film advance lever is, near the top. Its very dirty, shutter won't work.. ect.. so having never gotten very deep into guts of my other cameras.. figured this was an ample opportunity to dig in, learn how to do a CLA of the shutter ect, and learn something about repair.
It doesn't surprise me, that its not functioning, the trigger was all gummed up with its dried grease, cleaned the side and area, and then every so slightly applied some grease to it and the trigger plunger itself. It now returns very easily. This camera has probably been sitting, with the lens up, as its all dirty and filled with dust, for years and years.
Its challenging, and its been fun as I have nothing to lose.. and a lot to learn, on another rainy winter's day.
