Today I picked up this nice Konica camera at the thrift store for $20. It came with original case and a 50mm 1.4 Konica Hexanon lens. All the shutter speeds work. I can not remove the battery cap. Seems to be stuck. Do any of you have any ideas. I would like to test the meter on this thing if possible. It's my first Konica and don't know much about them. I know about the Konica/Minolta merger in 2003. I hope I didnt pay to much.

Without the exact model number it is a bit vague, but I suspect a battery cover that is stuck means a corroded battery still inside. It may come loose with force, or need minor surgery to open and hopefully just a clean up. The corrosion may have spread, but usually it is confined to the battery compartment. Stephen

I did remove the bottom screws but could not get off the bottom plate. Don't want to force it to hard. The camera serial number is 529951. I am guessing it was made in the early 70s.

Run a small amount of white vinegar around the head of the battery compartment cap, and try unscrewing the cap after letting it soak for a while.

Got the battery cap off. The corrosion was minor. It seems the meter is dead. Did nothing with the new batteries. Other than that it is in wonderful shape. I am still happy I got it.

Hi Dennis I think camera meters are designed to give up in short order.. I have a lot of cameras, mostly working but very few with working meters.. no big deal, can always use a hand held meter if you want

It may be something as simple as corrosion of the wire leading away from the battery compartment - I've seen it running up the wire, under the insulation.
I have a Konica TC, which has an intermittent meter fault - it works when you least expect it to. A hand held meter, and relying on the exposure latitude of film, can get around camera meter problems.
