Just bought this OM2n, why ? because i haven't got a chrome OM2n and i like the looks of the early OM's. In my opinion they are truly iconic cameras and the design of the OM 1&2 was never repeated in later models, Olympus did build further on the original, maybe made even better cameras, but never as good looking.

What about the late OM-2, the OM-2 Spot/Program?
What are the experiences/impressions?
Internet says it's a battery eater, and some kind of rough compared to the original OM-2.

In the past I had quite an OM collection (OM1, OM2n, OMsp, OM4, OM10). Sold them all to raise funds for my Zeiss addiction... Next week I'll purchase my second OM2n (much cheaper than I sold them - Dutch habit:-).
The OMsp is exactly what Internet says. I always put a battery in when I started shooting, and removed it immediately after. Still, a battery lasted about 3 months max. BTW, early OM4's had the same problem.

Have an almost complete set of the "pro" OM's, from the M-1 to the OM-4t. Missing only a OM-3t. (Any one have one and get rid of it on the cheep? ). Never liked the OM-2sp. Still shoot my original OM-1n and OM-2n's on occasion. But my favorite to shoot are the OM-4(t)'s Amazing metering system. First used it on a winter trip to Craters of the Moon in Idaho. White snow, black or dark red rock, blue sky and white cloud. Took spot readings on the snow, rock and blue sky, camera did the rest of the work. All great exposures.

I managed to pickup a OM-3 as "not working, as-is" but upon receipt found it to be in very good cosmetic shape working perfectly . . . However, even this "non-working as-is" OM-3 was not an impulse buy for me. Yoshihisa Maitani was just a genius and changed the world of SLRs!

No not an impulse buy for sure. Every time an OM-3t comes up I have to think long and hard. Especially since it would complete my collection. Hate to admit it but I have not put film through my OM-3. Should remedy that this summer. Yep the Pen's, OM's, and XA sure make Maitani look great. All just fun cameras to take pictures with.

Hi:
I could get my OM-2 Spot/Program for only 30€, so I took it. First Impression is mixed, Film advanced is rough, not smoth like at OM-2 or Minolta XD-7. Shutter and mirror sound "cheap" compared to OM-2.
I like the LCD bar for exposure time in the viewfinder. When set to program I miss information about the used aperture.
After using I set it to manual 60 to save batteries.
I need to shoot a film to get more impression. I think I will not use program mode, Also I'm not sure if I'll use manual/spot mode.
When I use a electronic camera I like to use it in AE mode and hope the metering does its job well. I know that I can trust the automatic of the OM-2 and OM-2n.

Hannes It would be unfair to compair to the XD-7. By comparison to the XE-7 and XD-11, practically all camera's shutter advance will feel like they need lubrication! The full stroke of the XE-7 is the smoothest and most effortless in my stable. But with the introduction of the OM's, all manufacturers redeveloped their lineup to more closely match the size and weight just like Minolta above.

Just to be complete. I have all the other "pro" OM's from the M-1 to the 4t in both black and chrome as issued. I essentially collect the OM system. Cameras lenses and accessories.

I can understand the predilection for Olympus equipment. I used OM1&4 for a long time, reliable and compact. I accidentally picked up another body with the first autofocus 35-70 and the little lead that tripped the shutter when the foocus was spot on. That, the screens, flachleads etc. sat around unused for ages after digital came in, so last year I swapped it all for a Leica R8. I did keep the Olympus ringflash, (T10), the cross-polarizer, the bellows, the varable extension tube, the 135macro and the vari-magni finder. All can do excellent service with other equipment.

My OM-1's and OM-2's were constant travel companions throughout the 1970's and later. I even design this canvas case to carry my compact gear. Air travel was more graceful back then!
