I guess i'm not the only one who bought a camera online of wich the seller wasn't all that honest in the description and when it arrives you get that Hmmm... feeling. In the worst case you end up with something useless or at least something you're not quite happy with. But every once in a while the opposite happens as was the case with this nikon EL2. It was advertised as being broken, with a blocked film transport. because of the 50mm f2 on it i gave it a "let's see what happens" low bid and got it. When i had a closer look on the camera's broken film transport i soon realised the "fault" was the shutterbutton blocking collar was on "block" i switched it to release and got myselve a fully operational Nikon EL2... This has got to be the "easyest" camera repair i've ever done. So i'll take a little good with the bad, to keep on going and not loose faith in online auctions.

That sort of thing happened occasionally in the camera store, usually when someone was selling a bunch of things and said "this one doesn't work," and it was something old and obscure that we couldn't remember how it operate. We would buy the lot, figuring that we got the "broken" one for nearly nothing, and give everything to the repair department for a more detailed inspection. A few days later one of the technicians would tell us what idiots we were.

Nicely done, Francois! More or less same story here, last year I bought a broken late model Ikoflex - only the seller didn't know about the triple lock of this particular camera... a simple 90 degrees shutter release button turn did the job... Hans

I had the opposite experience. A Kine Exakta I from 1937-38, that turned out to have a faulty shutter (second curtain not closing fully with a 3 mm gap), mirror not always winding down, and slow speeds not releasing the shutter. But extremely nice-looking, with a nicely working Schneider 50mm/2 of similar age - you could imagine they've been together all the time, what's an 80 year wedding anniversary called? Very presentable on the shelf, but inclined to misbehave.
