On one of my camera hunts i came across this 1/43 scale model of the apollo lunar explorer module. When i saw it sitting on the shelve of the thrift store i thought it was a plastic model but when i picked it up it was clear this was die cast. The price was such i couldn't resist it, brought it home and started a google search for what i just bought. Turned out it was a gold plated limited edition model (500 units world wide) issued by franklin mint. The only thing missing was the display base to put it on. As it is i thouhgt it would make a nice display companion for my nikon F "Apollo". The fun thing is the only F that actually went to the moon and was left behind , was officially called a "NASA spec F" and NOT an "Apollo F" it was rather diffrent from the ones people like to refer to as Apollo's. The story goes you can have the NASA spec F for free if you're willing to pick it up on the moon (the same is said about the lunar jeep and the hasselblad both of wich should still be there to)

Or did it? (Hehe - that'll flush out all the conspiracy theories).

This model is totally cool and I will have to start looking for one.
"Free but you have to go get it" was a joke, of course, but the day is coming when someone will be able to do that. I have mixed feelings about whether or not artifacts from mankind's earliest visits to the moon should be brought back to earth. It would be good if some of this stuff could be shown in museums, but it would also be good if the landing sites, especially the first one, were preserved intact, at least until some really thoughtful decisions could be made.

It all really comes back to human behaviour... if its too much trouble to dispose of properly we just walk off and leave it... we've junked earth now we work on space and other planets I live on a rural property and its unbelievable the amount of rubbish I dispose of from passer-byes who stop on the roadside for 'coffee & cake' and then drive on leaving a pile of garbage behind for someone else to take care of.... ONLY DIFFERENCE.... our space garbage is expensive garbage

One explanation I've heard is it's a behaviour inherited from our tree-dwelling ancestors. You just drop your banana skin and it vanishes. Or at least it becomes composted in time. In the stone age we dropped our junk on the cave floor for archaeologists to dig up today. Of course, if your a creationist and not an evolutionist you'll have a different explanation. It all started in the Garden of Eden along with other bad behaviours, that's why gardens are splendid places for dropping junk.

Dropping anything wherever they happened to be was strictly an inbred matter of survival. Being hunters initially, our ancestors had to wander far afield in search of game. They concentrated all their then limited senses on following and killing it. They, at that time, had no GPS's available so they improvised. By dropping things while they concentrated on the hunt they left a marked, easily seen trail that led them back to their beloved home cave with its spectacular wall decorations. Mickey

Bob Bob, Other than leaving a messy trail of shredded paper or bread crumbs this might do the job for you. I have not lost the way in my the house since I got it. And it is cheap. Mickey

After you awaken from your nap and the sleep has left your eyes take a gander at this. www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=compasses+for+watch+bandsIf you do decide to get one make sure the characters are clear and easy to read. Yaaaawn. 11:49. Long past this old geezer's bed time. Cheers. Mickey
