I have owned a Canon AE-1 since about 1980 and I used it a lot but it is in perfect condition. Not really into collecting just one make of camera but a year ago I bought a very clean AE-1 with the newer 'bayonet' 50mm f1.8 because it was very cheap in a charity shop.
Last night,on ebay I saw a Canon AL-1 with a 50mm f1.4 Canon lens and a Tokina 35-135 zoom and I made a quick offer and bought them quick for the Canon lens. The camera apparently is in good order except for the (common) broken battery door. I am thinking that if I buy a used autowinder for it that will keep the door closed! Not that I will be using the AL-1 for photography normally.
Depending on condition I might change the f1.4 onto the 2nd AE-1 and use that. It should arrive tomorrow or the next day and I will leave more comment to then...............
The camera arrived, very good cosmetically and after a lot of work cleaning the battery terminals and installing a temporary bridge of aluminium foil inside the door it works. I have clamped a long tripod plate across the battery door to keep it closed. The Canon lens is fine and worth probably twice what I paid for the camera. The Tokina lens has some small marks on the coating inside, not fungus I think.
