Hey, I bought one of those cameras in Shanghai in 2002. Mine had a strong petroleum-like odor that took nearly two years to dissipate.
I think you might be right. Maybe Lomo will add a rangefinder some day (probably notO).

I have a nice Werra 3, and it's one of the coolest cameras ever. Ivor Mantanle did a nice piece on the Werra a couple of years ago. This is one of the few cameras that you'll see marked as Carl Zeiss (Jena in this case). And not all of the Werras carry the Carl Zeiss Jena stamp.
Mechanically, in terms of its operation and its construction, the Werra is very unique. I think it's a camera that doesn't receive enough praise. Which might be a good thing for those who buy and use them. They're still an affordable classic (most of the time).

My experience was just the opposite. I've found them to be very rugged. I carried the 35T to work every day in a spare ammo pouch, and it never failed me. I also took it to Spain, many, many wine festivals and several other trips.
I don't think the Triotar models are as well made. They make prolific use of plastic and in some key areas that should be metal. They require more gentle handling. I have the C35 and LED models. Someone left the battery inside my LED model, and corrosion destroyed the cables. I might try to resolder some day.

The Rollei 35T was the first camera I bought when I arrived in Germany in 1979. Ironically, it was the Singapore model. That was one great camera, and I took many, many photos with it until it was lost in 1990.
I bought a new 35S in 1982 from my brother's friend who ran a gun and camera shop in Oscoda, Michigan. I also bought a Rolleiflex Automat. I still have both.
That's a good-looking 35SE that you have. I have an SE and TE, and I don't really care for the in-viewfinder LED metering system.

It seems that the popularity of certain brands rises and falls for no apparent reason. About a year ago, the Isolette folders were bringing in a huge amount of money. Lately, it seems the older Contax rangefinders are now the "big money" camera.
I saw the same thing with the folding Retina letter models, where several IIIC's went for US$450 -- more than a Contax at that time.
I think the trick is for those of us who really like them to wait until that cycle of popularity has eased a bit.
