On the 4th of september 1944, during WWII Antwerp was liberated from the German occupation. This British11Th Armoured Devision Cromwell tank was the first to enter Antwerp, the final liberation followed at the 8th of November. The tank is now kept as a monument and is placed where it entered the city, to commemorate and honour the British liberation forces.
