Hi, my name is Louis Sousa. I started taking pictures as a means to cope with the loss of my 12 year old daughter in 2009 to the swine flu. I am self taught. Photography has borne many fruits for me, especially personal interactions with many great film photographers including Colton Allen, Nils Karlson (sadly, no longer practicing photography), Raj Mohan, Em from Emulsive, Hamish Gill, Domenico Dodaro and Karlene Herdman. About 5 years in from starting with a 6 megapixel Nikon DX camera and migrating up the Nikon digital ladder, I purchased a Nikon FM2n a camera I had owned in my 20's (I am now 66). That led to buying and selling many different film cameras. I have accumulated quite a nice collection of vintage cameras including 4X5, 6X7, 645, 120 and 35mm. The collection does induce anxiety from owning such beautiful pieces of art, but not having the time to use them enough. My favorite film camera is my Rolleiflex 2.8F used to shoot the attached image from Sao Miguel, Acores on the street where my grandmother grew up, an images that bears special significance for me. Highlights for me have been having accepted article submissions on Emulsive and 35mmc and featured images in the Film Shooters Collective Journal. I am a member of FSC, but an infrequent contributor. My journey is captured on a blog named in honor of my daughter that can be seen here; victoriaslight.blogKind regards, Louis.
