Just thought I'd post a strange picture I found during my examining photos I'd recently taken. Trying out a new to me Sears TLS (with one dark focus screen) and a Hanimex 23 f3.5 M42 lens I just received. Forgive the fact it's pretty badly out of focus and of little real interest except: General photo of a couple of Mallard ducks and a man made peninsula in the background. Couldn't figure out the blemish on the left side of the photo till I cropped and zoomed the photo a time or two. Wish I'd had the foresight to have a better lens and cleaner focus on this. Looking closely you'll find that's an approx. 12-18 inch (30-45 cm.) fish in mid leap. Common fish to this bay are Salmon, several species of trout, pike, perch as well as about a dozen others but I sure can't match this to any one species. Would've been a great ooops capture if it were a bit clearer.

Mmmmmmm. I dunno. Wouldn't a leaping fish have disturbed the water at its exit point and be shedding some droplets? I don't think any of our native fish have a wide white band around their body. I'll bet on a mallard gliding in for a landing with its landing gear still retracted.

Think you are right Mickey. The water hasn't been disturbed.

I think, that it could be a Mallard duck in a steep landing run braking hard nose up before touchdown. What is odd is that the "landing gears" seems to be still up.

Thought it might be a heron in the first picture, but maybe not after seeing the enlargement. More likely something landfng as you suggest.

Thought it could've been a bird too but there was a large splash right after I took the shot and I've seen dozens of fish jumping there at all times of the day before. I swim my dog here and then he lies down for a 20 minute drying session so other than skipping rocks I don't have much else to do.

Yes, guess this one goes in the same category as blurry Loch Ness photos, vague flying saucer shots and the fuzzy Bigfoot pictures. Call me Zapruder and point me at a grassy knoll.
