Well the 'Buy it Now' Yashica AF merchant didn't get any more offers, but I notice he didn't offer to sell the items to me at half the offer price. I got the VLC, and I got the FS2, and really, I was just mooching around - you know how it is. Canon FT QL. Handsome camera - just liked the look. Suspect I'm going to have battery problems though!

Nice camera, John. A shade heavy, but beautiful to use. I had one for a long time but, fool that I am, I sold it. You ought not to have battery problems with the meter. If I recall correctly the older Canon meters had a bridge circuit and weren't picky about exact voltage. The meter in my Canon FX still works fine , and accurately, on alkaline batteries from Boots.

Had a sneaking suspicion that you might approve Peter! It doesn't have a Canon lens though - an Optomax zoom. I've got one or two of those in M42 format (short of light but otherwise usable). I'll post as soon as I can.

The Canon FT is a lovely camera. The shutter shafts run in tiny ballrace bearings. I use an AC13E zinc-air cell in mine - it lasts around 6 months.

John,
Nothing much wrong with Optomax lenses in my experience. I've got three of them with Canon adaptors, and my son John's got a zoom with a K-mount adaptor for his ist Pentax, can't remember the range at the moment, and he's where I ought to be - safely tucked up in bed.
We picked them up very cheaply from a local part-time dealer because no-one had heard anything about them. I gave £20 for my three, a 35mm, a 135mm and a 300mm. The 135 and the 300 in particular are excellent, at least up to 10x8 prints which is as big as I've taken them. The 35 gets just a shade soft right at the corners. I reckon they were a good buy.
John's zoom is a lovely lens, sharp throughout the range with good colour transmission and no distortion that I can see. He got it for £10 from the same fellow because the focus ring is little sloppy in action. Probably only needs new grease but it's working fine and neither of us has had the time to relube it.
Don't know who made the adaptors but they all focus OK at infinity.

Having lost out on the Yashica gear (he couldn't sell any of it at his 'Buy it Now' prices, and got no bidders on his 'Best Offers' BTW), I'd consoled myself with a Canon FT QL.
The description said 'Needs a clean and service'. I've just sent an email bitching about it - I think it has been dropped in the sea at some stage! Everything external is seized solid - can't open the back or battery cover, and the mirror is locked up. independent of the mirror lock-up lever. The lens won't close down to f22 fully either. Irrespective - the things you all said about it are true. The shutter blinds (looking from the front!) are in excellent condition, and everything mechanical about the camera seems to work OK. Just disappointed that's all.
Great hopes for the Konica FS-1 though!
