Hi,
Well done, Ron. Now let's see what Google says.

I can't believe somebody would be so lazy as to steal a picture rather than whipping out the digital camera and doing it themselves. It's just stupid.

It's because Ron's camera looks better than the one they are selling.

Hi, Well done, Ron. Now let's see what Google says. PeterW eBay did send me an email, telling me they were ending the seller's auction. I presume they also told him why, although it couldn't have been a big surprise because I let him know I had reported him to eBay's VeRo process, after he balked at removing my image. Don't know what, or even if, they tell the bidders about the reason. I suspect it's just "auction was ended by eBay." Last night I actually drafted a letter to Google. This morning I'm a little reluctant to send it. I suppose I'm concerned about being cut off entirely from appearing in Google searches.

Ron, I got a lot of FLAK from you guys when I blocked non members from seeing the posts on this board. If an unregistered guest comes to the Camera Collector, all of our images are fair game. That is why I had blocked non members from viewing the posts here and you guys got on my case and said people wouldn't join if they couldn't read the posts. I still think we should not let just anyone read our board if they don't join. At least if they were members I could track them if they steal images.

Randy: Not one of the 115 images of mine that show up in various Google Images searches is linked to The Camera Collector. All of them track back to my own web site (with the exception of a Japanese site that I just discovered by accident that is using several of my Mamiya images). I am still of the opinion that The Camera Collector should be available for viewing to everyone...but that only members should be allowed to post images or reply to comments. That's the same way my own Mamiya35 Collectors Forum is set up (and, by the way, there are no Google Images links of my images back to that, either)! I may need to apologize to everyone for starting this thread. I guess I was just blowing off steam at the annoyance that eBay fraud proved to be. ----- (edit): It's after 12 noon here, so maybe I should just go home early and contemplate this whole mess over a couple shots of Glenlivet...but only two!

@ Randy:
The classifieds section on the Manual Focus board can be seen, but the contents cannot be viewed by non-members and this remains so until a new member has posted a certain amount of posts. The site owner did this so that outsiders can't plunder any good deals and to offer a certain amount of protection to potential buyers with regard to the credentials/bona fides of a seller.
The EOS Magazine board, while it's classifieds are open to all, unless you sign up and actually log-on, doesn't allow you to look at any member profiles and neither does it permit access to its Events & Meetings forum either.
A motorcycle board I was a member of, hosted images and also had a knowledge base that was restricted to paying members only and those 'premier' members could also restrict access to their image albums should they choose to do so.
I'm not suggesting that CC should be exactly like any of those boards but perhaps blocking unregistered access to member profiles and the classifieds could be considered? That way the board retains a degree of 'openness' but certain key aspects remain private unless a guest actually signs up.

By the way, this is the Japanese site I stumbled upon that is also using some of my images. I would gladly let them be used to promote the old brand (I have for several other sites), but it's nice to be asked. Maybe it was the language barrier..........?

Looks to me like someone's used your images as part of their response on a forum page Ron.
Would have been better, and possibly more polite, if they had linked to your site rather than lift the images.

Well, you won! There is nothing on that page now except the word "Copyright" and some Japanese text. The following link is given to you for a brief try out. It is not designed to take over your life and for you to end in the divorce courts! www.copyscape.com/about.phpThe same warning applies to all of you with web sites. I have given this warning, because like all addictions, it can take over your life! (I had to remove it from my favourites!) Non-addicted (for now) Paul

Didn't think non-members were able to post anything Ron. I think Randy sorted that out some time ago.

Oh - missed your post Randy.
All I would say is that we'd have missed the posts from our recent members (particularly some of our friends here in Europe and Scandinavia), they wouldn't have joined if they couldn't see what we were all about.
Regards - John

Randy - agree with everything that John said.
(not often mind, but this time!)
Ron, The curse of copyscape strikes again!
I thought I'd try it again as I hadn't done so for two years. My site was OK, but found two pages that plagiarised a lot of the text on a web site I run for a lady with villas in the South of Spain.
Stiff emails sent off. See what happens next.
Repeat after me - get a life - get a life. One cannot track all the people in this world who are so lazy they can't even write their own copy!
I must stop this. There are so many idiots in the world that I could spend the rest of my life chasing them.
Nearly addicted again Paul
Yes I do absolutely agree with you Ron, but in the end, like the neighbour who borrows my lawn mower whenever he thinks fit, one has to shrug ones shoulders and get on with life!

For a couple of years I was asked to judge an annual contest at a local high school where students had to put together displays having to to with some topic from history. Probably 2/3 of the information and the photos in the entries were obviously pulled directly from internet sites. After the second year I told the head of the history department I would judge anymore until they made the students do something themselves rather than cutting and pasting. In addition, a lot of the stuff they were swiping from the web wasn't accurate!
