John, a quick review of Ross Ensign sales on ebay shows that the model 820 was averaging less than 100 quid..... until the sale you've asked about. Based on sales I'd say it was sold to someone with more pounds than sense. Just my opinion though.

Hi John,
Yes. Far, far too much money. Divide by about 8.
I had a dig through the entry. Possible interesting points :
No mention in the blurb about whether or not everything is working.
Seller did not seem to give very clear replies to questions 1 and 3.
Didn't notice the shutter button was stuck down. OK, I make errors and miss things too. But not, I would hope, a stuck shutter button.
Could not answer technical details; selling for an old lady. OK, some people do old ladies favours. I've sold a couple of things for friends who didn't have an ebay account.
Seller has been registered on ebay 2 years 9 months. 778 positive feedback, 0 neutral, 1 negative. Very respectable score. Average of just over 25 items a month sold. Items I tracked back for 90 days were all varied collectables. Doesn't seem to specialise. May genuinely know little about cameras. Majority of items sold for under £10, or very little more.
Bidders: Two who pushed the price up were registered 'less than a week' on ebay. One of those is no longer registered. OK, everyone has to start sometime. Maybe the one who is no longer registered was interested only in this camera.
Just a few observations anyone could find out - the sort of homework I do before I bid on anything more than about £10.
