For the most part I'm an slr collector. In general, I like the heft of the old mechanical models - but occasionally, I'll try something different. I bought a Yashica FX-3 recently, and it's so simple and dainty, I love it. (Got the same feeling from the Fujica ST605 too). So I've just bought a lens to go with it - a 75 - 150 f3.9 Should be a lovely portrait lens.
But I also bought an M42 adapter for it (from one of our Hong Kong friends). I've bought a couple of these - one for the Eos and Konica too. Just a little plug - their postage is reasonable (£5 = $10) and the delivery is quicker than items bought locally. I know that some of them are claiming amazing things for locally made Eos lenses etc., and I don't know anything about those, but if you need an adapter - these people are good

That's like me and my automatic Minoltas, just focus and shoot. I find I get spoiled though after using them and when I pick up a Spotmatic or variant I forget what to do.

I find myself constantly battling when I use an auto-focus camera...because I want to focus myself, and the darned things don't seem to like it! Unless I can shut off the AF, it is a regular issue when I pick up a camera.
Old habits die hard, I guess.

I always feel a bit left out if I'm using aperture priority, shutter priority or program slr's. Feel separated from the picture using point'nshoot auto everything cameras. I used both a Kodak Cameo and Olympus Infinity Tele earlier this week and was actually glad to be done with the film in them. Not that they don't have their place, just more for grab 'n go snapshots than anything serious.

I simply do not use point and shoot cameras. Admittedly my Canon T90 and my Pentax K100D provide almost unlimited automation which I do use. But when I wish to control depth of field or shutter speed or if I want selective focus both of them allow me full manual control and I use it frequently. I guess I am too old to gracefully relinquish those options.

Sorry for not being here for a few days, but I have to say that this thread has wandered across the spectrum, probably more than I have ever seen on here!!
I started the thread by reporting the purchase of a Yashica FX3 (a standard Mid to Late 70-ish semi automatic SLR). Look where we ended up!!
I'm so proud of you guys!!

I've wondered about those adapters, since I do own a Canon dSLR and use EOS lenses!

Ron, You should get an M-42 adapter for your Canon and put those Mamiya lenses to use!

Hi John
I'm with you. A couple of years ago I bought an ST605. I now have three. Not too long ago I came across a refurbished FX-3 recovered in dark red leather. It's now mine. Then an FX-7, which I believe is the same as the FX-3 but with chrome. The leatherette was very worn so it was mine for $18. Now another FX-3, well-worn, sold as is but works smoothly for $15. Oh! when will it stop (I'm not sure I want it to).
