It seems they are rather rare here in the US I know they sold tons of them in Europe. Most of the ones I see on ebay seem to be from the UK Everything works great on this---it is like new! I wanted one just to represent the brand in my collection---though I will make sure it does see some use. Bob

Bob, You picked what many people think is the best of the M42 L Series Prakticas, and it looks in great condition. If uou haven't got a user's manual Mike Butkus has a downloadable copy on his website. It's at www.butkus.org/chinon/praktica/praktica_mtl_5/praktica_mtl_5.htmIt's a manual for an MTL 5 not 5B, but I don't think there's any difference so far as using it goes. PeterW

I like those prices you have been paying for them ;D. If I could pick them up here for those prices--I'd have a cabinet full of them-- ;D Thanks for all the info. you have provided. My particular specimen is in 100% working order and clean as a whistle! Even the light meter is working and appears accurate. Though, I like you, usually do not use the meter in any camera.
thanks again Bob

stephenn Thanks for your good wishes...I think I will enjoy the Praktica. Being a Konica fan....having many of them....and many Minolta SRT101's........... the sound of the Praktica MTL5B shutter will not prove a problem for me......in fact--it is not as loud as any of my Mamiya TL series cameras. I suppose I like the sound of a loud, strong shutter release.....I find it quite comforting.... ;D. I associate it with quality . Bob

Ron Don't let that hurt.....lol. Not being one who shoots street scenes....and wants to photograph people secretly. The sound is of no consequence to me.....It has not scared away any birds, animals or mountains ......yet. I do associate a nice loud shutter release as an object with strength and quality. Bob

Now that's funny!
