Going through my wife's fathers negs and found this photo of a US Navy blimp on approach to land at Fort William Ontario in the late 50s/early 60s. It must have made quite an impression on a young girl as she remembers it passing over her house. A quick google and I am pretty sure it was a blimp manufactured by Goodyear as a ZPG-2W model. The image is from a 6x6 neg that I cropped to print 8x10. Bob

Bob, that's an interesting and historic picture. There's excellent detail and glasses aren't needed to read "US NAVY" on the blimp's side.
Side note: My father watched the dergible "Von Hindenburg" pass over our town in Maryland shortly before the disaster in New Jersey. He said that the swastika on the tail fin was clearly visible.

Bob--That is one great old aircraft shot! If you don't mind, I would like to add it to my file of historic pictures. Thanks Roy

Walker and Roy FYI, I just found an article dated 08 Sept. 1958 in our local libraries newspaper achieve on the visit of ZPG-2 en route to the Arctic. A web check found this link www.naval-airships.org/zpg2.html . From it I get the idea that it was ZPG-2(4) that stopped by here on the way to crossing the Arctic Circle. Just a bit of trivia but interesting to me. Bob

What football teams were playing? If there's a blimp--there must be a football game nearby!

Bob, that's an interesting site and it sounds as if you've pin-pointed the exact blimp that the photograph is of. That surely adds to the interest and value of the picture. Wayne, it hasn't been a very Good Year for my Terps! (Pun intended) If you follow Boise State, you have something to cheer about. Walker

Bob: nice bit of research. This is what makes this hoby so interesting. It branchs off, and dovetails with many other activities, such as my interest in aircraft and photography go hand in hand. Very interesing site. Roy
