Does anybody know about this camera? I have one in lovely condition but the shutter is just unreliable. It always "operates" when the shutter button is pressed but it doesn't always open. The 175 and 125 speeds seem the most unreliable.
It seems to me that the sector shutter should be a very simple one to work on.

Rachel:
I have an Exa 1 but have never delved into its inner workings. The Exa shutter is an odd duck and I have no idea exactly how it works--but you are right, it would probably be simple to work on. I suspect the problem is old "gunk" that's messing things up.

I have an Exa 1-a which, I presume, is similar to the Exa 1 except for the film advance lever. It is 100% reliable. The shutter never opens! It cannot possibly have the same genes as my faithful old Exacta VX IIa. Someday I may gather enough courage to do an autopsy.

Rachel, Back in January you wrote: Sorry to be so late replying but it went right out of my mind . How good is your German? Alternatively do you know anyone who could translate technical German for you? I ask because I have the Ihagee factory repair and service manual for all the Exas up to the 500 but it's in German. It was intended for techicians at Ihagee agents so it assumes a basic knowledge of working on cameras, but it's quite thorough. I have copyright permission to reprint it but haven't yet offered it on my business website as I don't think there would be many takers. However, it's all scanned in and ready to run off copies as I get odd enquiries about Exa literature from time to time. I think from memory it runs to about 40 or so sides of A4. I don't want to make commercial profit on it from members of this Board so if you or any other member would like a copy I'll just charge at cost (paper, toner, binding, post and packing etc). It would be £5 post free to anywhere in the world. Peter

Thanks Peter but I don't understand German at all. How is it for diagrams?

Not very good I'm afraid Rachel. Adequate if you can read the text, but not a lot of use on their own.
