Hi,
I was in Ashford market this morning and just on the off chance looked over a stall that sells remnants of curtain and dress materials. My daughter in law Wendy often buys material from him. I asked him if he could get any very thin leather patterned vinyl suitable for covering camera bellows, but it would have to be very thin.
He dug around in his van and came up with a roll of just the thing. It's a black vinyl, with a smooth faint natural leather finish, not quite 100% opaque, but as covering for bellows made from black 160 gm pastels drawing card from the art shop it would be.
It's only 0.2 mm thick, and as soft and pliable as silk. It's approx 54 inches wide, and I know that similar vinyl in a materials shop would be £15-£16 a metre, but I've never found any that thin and pliable. His price? £2.99 a metre - try that price for size on Evilbay!
So I bought a metre, which will cover quite a few bellows, a dozen or more 6x9. He's promised to look out for some in red or burgundy but can't promise. If anyone wants any in black I see him most weeks. He's also going to look out for some thicker stuff with a fine pebble grain for camera bodies.
I never thought to ask him for this sort of stuff before!

Peter: This is interesting. One of my old Speed Graphic's is in need of some help with the bellows...just the slightest bit of wear in a couple of corners. It's a much bigger bellows than a 6x9, but the vinyl you found sounds like it's perfect. I'm going to assume there is something like that on this side of the pond. I guess I'm going to have to go with my wife to her local fabric shop next time she goes (won't she be surprised )! I never thought to look there for something to help me restore a camera!

If you go to JoAnn fabrics, they have the same very thin vinyl. It comes in brown and black. It will have a cotton batting on the back. This comes off super easy once dampened with nail polish remover. I've used it for both small and LF bellows. When I last bought any, it was $6.99 a yard. The wife always has one of their 40% off coupons around, so I save there to.
