Recently got the second of two films developed. The first was leaking light. The second seems to have been leaking darkness! Trouble is - I have no idea which camera the films were taken with, other than a suspicion that one was a Fujica AZ-1 and the other a Minolta XG-M. Have a look at these and see if you can 'shed some light'! 24 Exposure film (all OK till the 13th exposure) then about half the rest had the black shadow. The middle one was fine - in between the others with the shadow on them. Any thoughts?? Regards - John

John: I'm wondering if your shutter curtain isn't hanging a bit sometimes.

Yessiree John, I'd have to agree with Ron. Looks like your shutter is capping or one curtain is slower than it should be due to dirt. My guess would be the XG-M but only because mine has given me grief several times.

John,
How about your camera strap or camera case case strap hanging in front of the lens.

Sticking shutter for me too - on all the shots that have it, the shadow is in the same place on the frame and is always vertical.

Wouldn't a sticking shutter give a relatively sharp image with parallel sides and even illumination? Camera straps do tend to hang vertically wherever the law of gravity is enforced.

Just to add to the mystery, I opened the XG-M to see if I could see any sign of sluggishness at slow speeds. The film was still in it. Aaaagh!
OK everyone - forget this topic until I get my act together, and run test rolls through some recent acquisitions (using mirrors and large sheets of paper with camera descriptions in marker pen as appropriate!)
