There was a tradition in the Merchant Navy that if there was any sort of a celebration, you had to wear a hat. They were called 'Steaming Bonnets' and some were out of this world. I tended towards Red Army fur caps or massively floppy brimmed sun hats, but on one occasion, hadn't brought one aboard with me. When we had a party (New Year's Eve - everybody was"'Dancin' with the Captain"), I had to make one. A parrot's head, made out of chart paper and insulation tape.
The comments of "Who's a pretty boy then" were well taken from the wives on board - not so from some of the other blokes!
Regards - John

My brother Ron has a '37 Hudson Firetruck. Hudson made six, this is the sole survivor. Ron lives in Hudson, FL and uses his truck in parades.

Hi Dan! Glad to see you back here posting again! That Hudson is great! There's a Hudson Pickup here in town, but I never get a chance to shoot it.

Absolutely beautiful Dan. Hudsons are a particular favourite of mine but I never realised they made a fire engine. Kudos to your brother for keeping this beauty in such nice shape. I've seen a Hornet with twin H power and know where there's another in a small town in Kansas, but like hen's teeth around here. Thanks for sharing this.

My father had a couple of Hudson's in the very early 50's -- the ones that looked like a giant beetle. The he went to work for Chrysler and bought a Dodge.
I never knew Hudson made fire trucks, either! What a neat ride! ;D

Thanks guys, it's a beautiful firetruck.
He also has a '54 Hudson Hornet 4-dr.
A few years ago Ron went to a hotrod show in St. Petersburg, Fl with a couple of his firetruck buddies. They all drove their firetrucks and parked them in the parking lot.
Ron was wandering around the show when they called his name to come to the stage area. They called him up on stage and handed him a "Best in Show" award for his Hudson. Ron was a little embarrased because he hadn't entered his truck. They said his friends had entered his truck without telling him.
A guy at the show offered him $100,000 for it but Ron wasn't interested in selling it at the time.
