I'm looking for a good portrait lens for my D200, any recommendations? Sharp is the word...

First, I have no experience with digital Nikon SLRs, but would guess any of the 50mm standard or macro lenses and 85s would be plenty sharp. The AF 50/1.8 is said to be very sharp, cheap and with the crop factor considered might be worth a try. I am sure GeneW will be along with some more useful suggestions as he is using a D200.

If your Nikon will accept an adapter for M42 mount lenses then I suggest looking for the 55mm f/1.8 Super-Takumar. If the crop factor is 1.5x then you'll be looking at an 82.5mm effective focal length which is an excellent portrait length and the Super-Taks are tack sharp. (Pun intended!) Walker

hi, as a nikon user I recomend: Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF, very sharp, light and useful anytime Nikkor 55 or 60 mm 2.8 macro (yes macro!) sharp as no other in all situations, but expensive from the glorious 35mm era the Nikkor 85mm 1.4 AF-D, it becomes a little bit long to use it as a portrait lens with digital cameras, but it has a very good quality
