I confess to owning a Minolta Hi-Matic E and and an Autcord. I also had an early black Minolta SLR with clip on meter that gave excellent results but has a new home with Curt. The two that I have kept really do good work too. I am not too brand aware and have found that most cameras and lenses that I have tried will give satisfactory results. OTH I mainly go for Nikons in the SLR category as I like the way the work.

I've already confessed to owning one Minolta (X7-A)...and Bob convinced me to try at least one Fujica (ST605N)...but my Mamiya are jealous!

Steve,
Try to get a XD series, I love them.
An X-700 is also a nice camera. Truth is I never use the "P" mode so I could do just as well with an X-300, X-370, or X-570, which is almost the same fine camera but aperture only.
Yeah, by all means, try a Minolta.

I had an Autocord once and loved it. Of course, like an idiot I sold it and now wish I still had it.

I too have a confession. Of my 250+ cameras (too many!) not one is a Minolta. I've never even owned one. Peter W You're missing out.... I've had an XD7 and an XG-M and currently have an X-700. Lenses are good quality & (relatively) cheap and the viewfinders are so much brighter. Since I love available-light photgraphy and night-time shots, that brightness gives Minoltas a real advantage. Wish I'd kept the XG-M now. The XD7, whilst a great camera, was getting a little long in the tooth and also used to annoy me at how many times I accidentally left it on manual (no real warning in the viewfinder) for an "auto" shot! Yes, my own fault but the X-700 has a nice big red "M" in the viewfinder on manual! It's just about idiot-proof so it's well matched to me!
