Like a lot of people here I enjoy blues, jazz (particularly trad jazz), big bands and classic rock. I too used to play trumpet till I lost my front teeth but now I play - or like to think I play - poor imitations of Eric Clapton, Brian May, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck et al on my Fender Stratocaster. Other than that I tinker with restoring cameras, naturally, and do quite a bit of reading. I used to restore all sorts of things: classic cars, old clocks, old typewriters, old sewing machines ... anything mechanical, but gradually lost the urge except for cameras. I spent hours in my darkroom when I had one, but now it's a desk-top electronic darkroom. I also used to enjoy golf, but an arthritic leg put an end to that, and to tennis. And, of course, I love being with my children and grandchildren - grandchildrens' ages from 21 to 4. Unfortunately I don't see some of them as often as I'd like to, they live too far away to drop in for a hello and a cuppa, even using motorways. But I seem to keep busy. Often there just aren't enough hours in the day. Peter: What I wouldn't give to hear you jamming to "After Midnight.....!"

I forgot Jazz. Here is a gallery of a show I got to shoot. www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=5899I actually gave in and bought an XM radio for my car. It is a great thing, the jazz channels are excellent. I never thought I would pay for radio, but I do and I think it is worth it if you are not a fan of pop music.

Is there anything in life other than collecting cameras? Photography. Photography. From snapping the shutter to drying the prints or the Photoshop equivalent these days. I paint in oils. Rembrandt need not fear me. My daily crossword is a necessity. I like to bicycle when it is neither too hot nor too cold. No steroids, I swear. I do a little woodworking in my garage, also weather dependant. I love Dixieland/New Orleans jazz, big bands, swing, classical of almost any kind, old Broadway shows, marches, Gilbert & Sullivan, but not that funeral dirge that appeared here this morning. I played double bass in high school orchestras and dance bands and was once thrilled to play with the Toronto Symphony. Although the fiddle still stands in my living room 50+ years later, arthritis prevents me from playing it. Probably a good thing. I write a lot of letters on the internet and have a too large correspondence thereon. I live alone so I cook after a fashion, do my own housekeeping and house maintainance. And then, first and foremost, there are my two sons and three grandchildren and the rest of my rather large and very close family. When friends and relatives come to Toronto from afar (Edinborough and Leeds and Melbourne this summer) Mickey's Manor is the official guest house and I become the official tour guide. Love it. And they said retirement would be boring.

I also enjoy reading, music(jazz, blues, country and opera without the words) and...yes...trying to make wifey happy by diligently working on my honey-do list.
Rover...I checked out that sight...the b&w shots of the jazz show are neat.

Hi Ron, You wrote: IMHO that was Clapton at his possibly laid-back best. If I recall correctly it was on his first solo album back in the early 1970s, about the same time as Layla on a different album (Derek and the Dominos). I put both albums on CD and took out some of the clicks and pops as the vinyls, now packed away, were starting to get noisy. I haven't tried to play After Midnight for years, I'd have to listen to it a few times again before I could even find the key and the right position on the fingerboard. Must get the CD out and have another bash at it. At the moment I'm still struggling with the long guitar solos in The Eagles' Hotel California. There are two guitars, not sure who's playing, each taking solo breaks in turn and then coming together for the final break. I've got the TAB of it, and I can struggle through it after a fashion, but it's a tough one - at least it is for me! My left hand fingers ain't as supple as they used to be PeterW

I suppose I should confess to liking hard rock. My son-in-law says, "my childrens grandfather is a head banger!". ACDC is my favorite, course they've been around since the late '60s, but I also like the Moody Blues. I like all kinds of music from blue grass to heavy metal depending on my mood. I used to play sax.

I at times can endure and even enjoy some others than what I mentioned, but...definately...not heavy or even light(LOL) metal. My head would really be spinning and aching.

It's all Randy's fault!! This thread got me to thinking about the first couple of Bert Kaempfert LP's I had back in the early 1960's...... one a gift from a grilfriend. So late last night I found myself on half.com looking for those albums on CD. I now have three double albums ~ six albums total ~ on order and they include the original two that I owned more than 40 years ago. It's going to be nice having them again.
I also like guitar and especially like Les Paul. Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Doc Watson, Django Reinhardt and anyone else who can make a guitar talk.

Walker,
You lumped together a number of excellent guitar players. I saw Chet Atkins in concert once and he played two straight hours with no break. Applause at end of concert was so great, he played 3 encores.

Ha! Walker
If I ever do make it to heaven, I confidently expect to find Django giving guitar lessons to Clapton and Hendrix (Sorry Peter!). Read an article once where someone had analysed Reinhardt's playing, and calculated that he was carrying out ten chord transformations per second in his head as he accompanied Grappelli (or was it the other way round?)

My other interests are music, most kinds, including (but not limited to) metal, classic rock, country, rap and quite a bit of classical. I have seen Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Motorhead and Motley Crue in concert and thouroughly enjoyed them all. I like watching the wrestling and have been to a few WWE shows when they visit here, including 7 rows from ringside at one show. Saw the WWA (World Wrestling Allstarts) a few years back that was a pay-per-view on cable. Second row from rinside for that one. That show went on the be released on DVD and I can be seen in a few of the crowd shots, especially when I was wearing a bright shirt. I have also photographed the Australian Wrestling Federation shows a few years back as their official photographer. I am going to try to get back into that scene soon.
My other main hobby is radio control cars. I have two at the moment that are working, and on that I am customising. My newest one is a Tamiya TXT-1 that is totally awesome. 4 wheel drive, twin motor monster truck that can drive over almost everything. My other working one is a Kyosho Ultima RB racing buggy, 2 wheel drive off road racer. I have raced on and off for the past 17 years right up to state championship level, both on and off road, all 1/10 scale. I have also helped run an Australian championships as an official. So far I have been totally electric (7.2 volt) but am seriously considering getting my first nitro car (well truck actually, a HPI Savage).

Heath,
As a teenager, I used to build and fly model planes tethered to wires and a hand-control. I was pretty good at building them...the largest with a wing span of two feet...but flying them was something else. Most of the planes I crashed.
The hobby store were I dealt had build a model of a B22...wing span of 3 feet as I recall on each side of the fuselage. I also was a fly-by-tether and the only guy they would let fly it was accomplished. It was amazing watching him manually spin the propellors to start the engines, take off from the ground and land it...all totally in one piece. Radio controlled models were not yet in then.
Knowing my unfortunate experiences with the planes, the only radio controlled toy I had was a boat about 2 feet long. Would take that to a lake and have fun. However one day a fisherman in a small craft with a motor came into the area reserved for men/ladies with their toys and as luck would have it for me...ran over and smashed my boat.
Randy,
Thou hast been a man of all trades in the past...even pro or semi-pro wrestling...way to go!!

I can remember my grandmother's friend, Bill (my grandfather was deceased), watching wrestling on the tube...I must have been about 9-10...names like Leaping Larry Shane, Bobo Brazil, and Dick the Bruiser are still stuck in my head, all these years later!
