Apologies if this topic has come up before, but I finally watched Blood Diamond last night on DVD and couldn't help but notice Jennifer Connelly's camera: a Leica M6 Classic with a 35mm summicron (I'm not an expert...I looked it up ). I don't want to appear (too) sexist, but to a lad of my generation, Jennifer Connelly with a Leica causes the same heart palpatations as her co-star was reputed to have produced in millions of women with his flick about a sinking boat. So here, for fans of Leicas or our Jen, is a still from a scene where she's making a informal portrait of the ever-photogenic Leo. The film's researchers/coaches did well, and you'll notice Jen actually focussed the cron with her left index finger before releasing the shutter, or maybe she's a photographer and enjoyed the chance to play. Unfortunately the Foley guys plied their non-too-subtle craft after the fact, and the Leica is clacking away with their stock SLR shutter sound! Enjoy:

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one jolted by the SLR shutter sound. Good movie other wise.

I like Her Majesty's hold on the Leica much more than Jennifer Connelly's. Jennifer's hold is obviously posed for the stills man, and asking for camera shake Also she's looking into the viewfinder instead of through it. Otherwise she would have realised she's not holding the camera level. The gal's pretty, and a good actress, but she's no photographer.
The Queen, on the other hand, is well-known as a keen photographer and has often been photographed using either a still or a cine, later video, camera at races where her horses were running.
I wonder if she, or her children, will ever sanction a book of her pictures? I'm certain it would be a world best-seller.

Peter, isn't her husband Philip a former professional photographer? Or am I thinking of some other member of the Royal Household? I seem to recall that one of the men was.

Her Majesty looks like she's working with an M2 or M3--can't tell which--complete with selenium meter. I had an M3 like that. The Queen has good taste.

Walker That'd be Lord Snowdon, Maggie's ex-husband and thus, the queen's brother in law. Otherwise known as Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon. They gave him a title so that Marge didn't marry a commoner. Bloody good portrait photographer IMHO. Uses as much natural light as possible, with the minimum of flash. I have Prince Andrew's "HRH The Prince Andrew Photographs" book too and it's pretty decent. Runs in the family?
