I bought this lovely Pentax from Bob. It's now properly inaugurated in a 'camera and coffee' shot. A Jupiter 9 85/2 attached. Sometimes colour is nice Gene

Very nice Gene, sometimes a "Spotty" can be like an old friend.

Nice Gene, another classic slr. I have always like the look of spotties and earlier pentax slrs also. Enjoy yours and post some photos taken with it.

Nice camera, Gene. Brian - the Spotmatic II has a hot shoe, and was supplied with a Super Multi Coated Pentax lens. Otherwise it's the same as the original Spotmatic.

Gene,
I too have the Spotmatic SP. It is a very nice camera to use and gives excellent results. However, mine lacks something that yours undoubtedly has. The great aroma of arabicus.

Brian, there's also a IIa which has a sensor built into the top cover on the left side (as the camera is being held). The sensor allowed automatic flash use with special Honeywell units. It was otherwise identical to the II. The IIa was sold only in the US and never marketed elsewhere.

Thanks for all the replies. It's obvious that the Spotty holds a special spot in many of our hearts and memories. My first SLR was a Pentax H1a and I've always liked Pentax cameras and lenses. John, thanks for the explanation of what makes it a Spotmatic II. I used the Spotty primarily because of the hotshoe on Christmas day so I could attach a flash unit. Neither of my Bessaflexes have one.

Hi Mickey,
It's not very often I have to reach for my dictionary to check the meaning of a word, but your phrase about the aroma of arabicus made me blink for a moment. I guessed it had to do with coffee but didn't actually know that it's a particular type of coffee where the bean is obtained from the tree Coffea Arabica. I shall know next time!
Oh, to misquote Francis Albert Sinatra: They've got a lot of awful coffee in Brazil.

Gene: Sorry to be late to the party, but the holidays were hectic at my house (last guests left in the afternoon on New Year's Day)! As always, neat shot (I've begun to look forward to each picture you post), and an equally neat camera. I've often thought that if I hadn't started collecting Mamiya, I would have collected Pentax. Or Voigtlander....or Minolta....or Canon....or.............well, I would have accumulated something!
