I was going through some things I had packed away and came across this Minolta pad. It has a felt type texture with a rubber back. On the back it has a white sticker that has MADE IN JAPAN. I think it is a repairman's pad, designed for low bounce if you drop something like a screw on it. I may put it out on ebay just to see what it will bring.

Dan,
Those or similar pads were put on the sales counters and the camera was placed upon them by the sales clerk. Elegance. Particularly the purple and dark blue ones. The orange camera sort of destroys the illusion.

Mickey, What, you don't like my custom covered Minolta XD in bright yellow lizzard skin? I thought it would show up in better contrast than some of my black cameras. If it is showing up as orange on your monitor it should be a very bright yellow. I think you are right about it being a Camera Display Pad so customers wouldn't mark up the countertop or bottom of the camera. But it does have a low bounce if you drop screws on it. Here is another shot with Minolta A and A2 rangefinders for the more traditional members out there.

Dan,
The yellow/orange (cadmium yellow?) camera is beautiful but the red background does nothing to enhance its magnificent appearance. Purple or blue would do it justice. It is, indeed, a very handsome camera.
The black cameras fare much better on red.
Eons ago when I worked in a camera store those pads were a curse. We were constantly brushing cigarette ashes from them. We even had a special brush for the job.

Geez. I thought the black and yellow really jumped off the red pad. Must have looked at too much Mitchell Funk and Jay Maisel in my formative years!
Seeing the Minolta A and A2 on the pad caused a case of collector's remorse. When I decided to concentrate on SLRs and again when I moved to FL I thinned out a few RFs including a Minolta A and Konica I. I'm sure the new owners are happy to have them.

Hi Dan,
I am happy I'm a lens collector rather than a camera collector. Otherwise I could not stand my envy ;-)
Best regards Peter
PS: maybe a blue pad were better - but even that red pad is looking like hell :-)

PS2: for shure the red pad was completely ill-performing on my red/black XD-7 ;-)
