Because I know where all these parts go. ;D I bought this poor old SRT MCII on Ebay for parts...cheap! The shutter was frozen, parts had been picked off, the top cover was all dented by the prism, and there was no film door. I have quite a few parts I've saved from other basketcase SRTs. So one cold winter night I dumped all the parts on the table and made a Minolta SRT MC-II with a new top and bottom cover, MLU and Self Timer. Now I know it isn't supposed to have MLU and Self Timer, but it does now! And it takes great pictures.

Wow Randy, you've sure got a lot more skill than I do. Remember that SRT 101 I bought with the severely grinding cocking lever? Today I went to remove the lens to try on my new SRT Super and the back popped open to reveal exactly why it was grinding. Now 99.9 % of the time I first remove old batteries, then check for film before I open the body of any new to me camera. You guessed it, I was ripping the sprocket holes out of a now-exposed roll of found film, DDDUUUHHH. Amazingly now the camera works quite smoothly. I told yuh I aren't thet smart.

Randy
I would like that very much. Maybe sometime in the future, hopefully time and money might allow that to happen.

And...no swearing. ;D Randy: I've never taken apart an SRT, but those parts look awfully similar to the Mamiya parts I've had scattered all over the table! And whattaya mean, no swearing? I've never been able to work on a camera without it!

I have to watch when I'm working on cameras, the right amount of colorfull metaphors have been known to make parts disappear.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the Minolta SRT-MCII camera was made to be sold by S.S.Kresge (Kmart) and J.C.Penney, and they were a cross between an SRT-101 and an SRT-200. There was also an SRT-SCII that was identical and sold only by Sears Robuck & Company. Ironic that Kmart and Sears are now one, eh?

Well...I, too, know exactly where all those parts go...inside the camera body...right...LOL...!
Yeah, I also envy you mechanical guys. I can take em apart, but forget trying to put em back together again.

I have an SRT 101 body that I bought as a backup for my version 5 SR1.I found my SR1 for sale in the camera shop where I used to work.It was in truly mint condition. So,you can imagine how annoyed I was when I took it out of my bag the other week to discover two tiny dings on the edge of the prism housing.Christ, was I annoyed or what? I have no idea how they got there.Nevermind though,as I have some choice glass for it and I love the pics it gives me.I have a mint 135 2.8 that I use occasionally for it that I picked up for £6 but the lens that stays on it most of the time is a 24 f2.8 Rokkor that is a stunning piece of glass. The old 50mm I got with it is a spectacular lens in its own right.Minolta sure knew how to make nice lenses.
