Hello All,
After 30 years of slumber, my camera bug has awakened and is now quite ravenous. It all started when my best friend sent me a pic we took of us back then geeking out with a bunch of photo equipment.
I was in middle school when it first hit, 'round about 1977. I real every issue of Modern Photography cover to cover and had every beautiful four-color sales brochure I could get my hands on. During the four years or so I allowed my cravings to fester, I lusted for a Pentax 6x7, Minolta XD-11 and my uncle's Stereo Realist. Minolta XK Motor was damn cool, too. At the time I had a SRT-101 with three Rokkor lenses and a Vivitar 285 flash. The SRT mirror locked up so I gave it away when I was given a XG-M by my folks for high school graduation in 1981. It's still going strong but now the XG-M is locked up. I still have that body and the lenses.
Other fun stuff I'm dusting off: Yashica A TLR Polaroid Sun Bell & Howell Super 8 Revere Regular 8
... oh, and did I mention? -- a Leica A? Any suggestions on who should work on this for me?

Hi and welcome. As you are in the USA, for work on a Leica SM model you do have quite a few choices. I have used DAG to work on both a IIIc and a IIIf with good results. Sherry Krauter of Golden Touch is well though of on the net too. These are just a couple that can do work on Leica SMs. You may also find more info at Range Finder Forum (RFF) if you search the past threads. If by Leica A you mean this www.cameraquest.com/leicaa.htm, then you have a very historic camera. Have fun dusting the stuff off and using it. Bob

Welcome to the group. We all have the same bug so you're in good company! As for the Leica A, I spoke with a gentleman by the name of John Maddox and he convinced me that he knows what he's doing with the Model A Leicas. Others have highly recommended him. His address is: John Maddox L&J Leica Repair (screw-mount only) 109 Royal Oak Road Greenville, SC 29607 Telephone: (864) 297-6931 I may be wrong but I don't think Sherry Krauter works on screw-mount Leicas. It wouldn't hurt to ask though. Walker

Walker now that you mention it I believe you are right about Sherry Krauter not working on SM Leicas. My bad.

Thanks for the great Leica referrals! Yes, nikonbob, it's the one and same camera (minus the clip-on rangefinder) ... it was my grandfather's.
I ordered a Kodak V570 today. I think in wide angle and this one fits the bill because it's wide angle AND teeny-weeny. I hope I'm not offending anyone by mentioning a digital camera on this board.
By the way, is there a way to subscribed to this board? Other forum let you do this so you are notified by email when there are replies.

We're an equal opportunity camera group here (although the Minolta crowd has been getting pretty pushy lately) Welcome Wayne

Drako -- If you want your Minolta repaired, I can recommend Garry's Camera Repair, on the net for quick service at very reasonable prices. He has done an XD-11 and an SRT-102 for me. Dave

Welcome, Drako. ;D It won't take long for you to discover I'm known around here as "the Mamiya-man" . . . can't imagine why . . . my collection encompasses a lot of different cameras. I don't see any Mamiya's in your list, but I've had an influence (think Mamiya) on some of the members here since I joined the site (think Mamiya). I guess you could say I grow on you...especially if you have a "collecting" bug. (think Mamiya). I'll keep working on the rest (think Mamiya). Nothing sinister or subliminal at all. LOL!! ;D

Herron, You'll be thrilled to know that both of the pics I show above were shot with a Mamiya-Sekor DSX-1000! It was my buddy Steve's first SLR. You can see it in the mirror in the first shot (grainy and ugly as that shot is). A Mamiya 645 is on my secondary list, but I'm easily influenced and open to not-so subliminal suggestions.
