Aside from the Spotmatic F, I find from personal experience my Pentax Screwmounts (Spottie II, SV, S1a and Model K) hate the cold weather anything below +8c or mid 40s F the shutter and mirror have issues. I finished off a roll in my Model K and I found half the roll was a write off because the shutter and mirror slowed right down. Thing is, it had a CLA a year ago.

I've had the same experience with all of my Pentax Cameras.

I must be a Pentax, since I hate the cold weather also.

That is not very cold to be having problems in. I have always thought of Pentax cameras, especially the Spotmatics, as being one of the reliable mechanical breed. I thought they would perform similarly to a Nikon FM series in the cold, which I have used at -10 to -20C. Come to think of it, I have also used a Leica IIIc in that type of cold. OTH it could be that Pentax is just a thoughtful company that wishes to keep you from freezing your backside off in the cold. No I am not bashing Pentax, I like their gear. Would a change in the type of lubricant used make a difference?

Strange -
Never had a problem in winter with my Prakticas and M42 lenses. Will make a point of putting a Super Tak on and see how that manages. Maybe try it on a Fujica as a Japanese camera with a Japanese lens to see if there's that sort of connection. (Both my Spotmatics are 'sticky' all the time).

The only pentax screwmount I don't have a lot of trouble with is the Spotmatic F. I have not seen this with my Leica M3 and Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat and Olympus OM-1s which have seen some really cold tempertures in the past with no troubles at all.

I used my new OM-1 in Korea throughout the Winter of 1973~'74 and also the Fall of '74. It was as reliable as anyone could possibly hope for and Korea gets horribly cold. I saw 40 below zero F several times and the wind wasn't a factor as it was deathly still. I really can't say anything about cold weather and my Pentaxes. I really haven't subjected them to much that way. Walker

Can't help wondering if the LX has any similar issues.
