Bob, That one was built by Komine. That's the only good Series 1 in that focal length that will operate K-mount Pentaxes in program mode. I think it will also do the same with Pentax DSLR's, but not sure about that. Mickey can probably answer that. Other Komine lenses that I have are the equal to any others I have used. Roy

Hell! The first incarnation is pretty common in Minolta MD, and prices are down below 20 € (30$) right now...

"Mickey can probably answer that." Hey! Have mercy. This is the first time I have heard of Komine lenses.
I also know very little about Pentax lenses. My experience with Pentax and adapters is limited. I did purchase an M42 to K adapter from China. It has a wide flange that touches all the contacts on the Pentax K100D lens mount and seems to disable everything.
So, I bought the Pentax M42 to KA mount from Pentax. It has a narrow flange and everything except autofocus works properly. Based on my experience that leaves a choice of one.
I have a Tamron Adaptall CF Tele Macro 80<210mm zoom that has a P/KA adapter that also allows the use of all the camera's features except autofocus. So far this lens has been getting more use on my Pentax K100D Than has the kit lens.
The reason autofocus will not work on lenses not designed specifically for the K100D is that the focussing mechanism is in the camera body not in the lens.
I do have the first Vivitar Series 1 70<210 mm. Zoom. It is in a Canon FD mount. It is unique among zooms in that the aperture remains the same at all focal lengths. Being an FD it will not, sadly, work on my K100D.

Sorry Mickey , knew you had the K100D and therefore knew more about DSLR's than me, 'cause I know nada! Komine was one of the three companies that built very high quality lenses for Vivitar, which was simply a distributor. Tokina and Kiron were the others. Some argue that the Komines were the best, but frankly all three are excellent. I have examples of all three and use them all with very good results. All of them exceed my ability! Roy
