I was looking for a higher-end SLR to shoot with, and this is what I decided on. A Canon AE-1 Program. I have ran a roll of film through and am quite pleased, pretty sharp and the camera is a delight to use on the fly in full-auto mode. This canon is the reason I had to buy a olympus om-10 instead of a om-1. haha Here are the pics of it.

She's a beaut! The FD system is one of the great bargains at the moment - rock bottom prices on many of the lenses since the digital crowd aren't buying them all up (unlike, say, Nikon where the used prices on the more exotic MF glass seem to actually be going up especially after the new D3 came out). I have an A-1 myself, but have found the optics to be first-rate - I think the popularity of these cameras back in the day was fairly well-deserved. Have fun with it!

A good, rugged camera, too. A friend of mine carried his everywhere and shot hundreds and hundreds of rolls with it. He gave it too me some years ago thinking it was worn out. A CLA and it's good as new, though it doesn't look it. My sister recently gave me hers. She ignored the A series signature symptom, the squeak-squeal, to the point that the mirror cycles dreadfully slowly. A CLA due on that one, too. If you have the urge to motor along rapidly, the AE-1 P accepts the Canon Motor Drive MA and will go 4 frames per second.
I just took delivery of an Oly OM-10. Hoping to give it a workout today.

An AE1 was the first Canon I ever had. But I did not like it and only kept it a few months. Never could really put a certain reason on my dislike though.
With all the positives people state of the camera, I have been tempted to get another...of course for my accumulation/collection...but a user so I can give it a try again.
I like and use all my other Canons:

I ran a roll of Kodak Professional 400 B&W through it today, and will get it developed tomorrow. My first roll of B&W too! I also picked up some Kodak Ultramax 800 for it, and will run some if the B&W came out right.
