Here in Chico we have one of the largest municipal parks in the nation. It stretches for miles up a canyon into the Sierra Mountains. It was donated by the Bidwell family who lived in this huge house in what is now downtown Chico. The mansion is a state park, but the rest of the Bidwell property is a city park. Roy
You gotta love older homes. They have so much detailing and feel so much warmer than most modern homes.

Could you imagine living there? I bet there's room to display all of my cameras for sure. Great shots Roy.

Mr. Bob definately hit-it-on-the-nose about the appeal of the old architecture. And think of all the work in building them. A person could wonder around inside and outside of one for hours just taking in the detail and intricsy without getting board.
And a kudo to the Bidwells for their generosity.
Mr. Randy,
Remember...you would need to carry detailed sketch/inventory with you when in the mansion...to find your way around...and to know where each camera was.

Thank you all. I hate to admit it, but I have lived in this general area for the better part of the last 20+ years (with a year-long hiatus to Wayne's neck of the woods in Caldwell and Nampa, Idaho) and these are the first pictures I have taken of the Bidwell Mansion. These convinced me that an in-depth visit and possible photo-essay are in order. Roy

Olroy,
What a splendid building. I particularly like the elegant but tastefully subdued gingerbread. May we see the interior?

Hi Mickey: I am definitely going to go back and do more shooting, and I will be sure to get some interior shots. I finally realized what a beautiful piece of history has been right in front of me all these years. We look for lilies in far away places and ignore the rose right at home. Roy
