John...I've always had a strange "Bond" with the Austin Martin DB5. So I suppose if I was single and looking for something unique, that would be the one.

John, Good luck, I hope you get that Mazda. Ron, Nice looking 'Vette. I've owned several Corvettes through the years. All were 1/25th scale and by AMT or MPC! I've also owned several Mustangs through the years. All were 1/1 scale. This is number four, purchased this past June. Bill

John: Just got rid of what will probably be my last muscle car, also a "Q-car" as you call it. Mine was a '70 Mercury Montego 4dr hdtp. Totally stock and unassuming on the outside, but with the hi-horsepower Cleveland engine (335 hp per the factory specs) under the hood. Tire-ripping torque and no end to speed. Served as a reminder to the driver of a V-12 BMW that "It's not smart to mess with old men and muscle cars!"
Gave it away to a friend who had a place store it indoors, and could give it the kind of care it deserved and that I no longer had the time to give.
God, I miss it! Roy

Bill (casual collector) wrote: Before I was seriously into camera tinkering I went in for building and detailing model cars in a big way. It started back in the 1950s when the first kits I'd seen appeared on the market. They were 1/76 scale by Gowland and Gowland and included a Rolls-Royce, Bullnose Morris Oxford and a Ford Model T.
The same models, with slightly better detailing, later appeared under the Airfix name (I believe the dies used to go the rounds of being sold or leased to different manufacturers), and then Airfix really branched out with dozens more car models plus a huge range of aircraft.
Some people run down Airfix because they also produced a lot of plastic kitchenware which sold very cheaply in Woolworths, but their car and aircraft models were among the best and most accurate I came across. Later they produced a lot of military vehicles and soldiers, mostly WW2 but also some historic like Napoleonic era.
I tried some larger scale car kits but storage problems drove me back to 1/76 which also fitted in nicely with the model railway layout I had at the time.
Later I started collecting diecast cars, and modifying (chopping to use the enthusiasts' phrase) to make models the makers had neglected to produce.
However, when I got the camera collecting and tinkering bug the models took second place and were eventually all sold to buy old cameras. I enjoyed them at the time, but never regretted changing over to cameras.

Renaldo: 89,000 on the clock when I bought it in June. A previous owner did a substantial refurbish on it early this year. Lots of fresh trim stuff on the exterior, new carpet, new headliner and new paint , of course. I'm planning a new engine and some other upgrades for the future.
Peter: 1/25 was the standard for American plastic car kits. I started with a 1963 Buick Riviera when I was about ten years old. Never was very good with paint jobs. Lack of patience! I had a few Airfix '72 airplane models. I think they were USAF "Century" series jets. They were molded in a silvery grey and didn't need paint, at least I thought! Model trains I did better with and plan to do more. Right now they're packed away as I'm in rented quarters. I do have a car kit and a couple of submarine kits. Hope to start on them soon but for now the cameras, lenses and 12" to the foot scale Mustang are occupying my time.

PeterW I was actually quite sedate for 1966 ... the Beatles were all the rage, and the "hippie" culture, with it's beards and long hair (on men), were suddenly all the thing here. Between '66 and '70, my hair grew down almost to my shoulders (I got it cut short again for my very tradtional wedding). LOL!!

This one, however, is full size. T-Tops (no convertible 'Vettes in '81), 350c.u. small block, modified with an Edelbrock performance manifold and carburetor (approx 50 additional hp). 48K actual miles, as of last Friday.

Got it! A very thirsty animal, although it seems to be as happyy on 95 octane as 99. Only a matter of time before I get locked up team, but I intend to put a few BMW and Audi drivers into therapy before that happens! Regards - John
