This new A 1 Tornado is fantastic! I'll bet Rachel has been hunting it with a long lens for sure!

Randy
Thanks for posting this. I would love to see her at speed in person. I hope Rachel has had the opportunity and can post some shots.

They had one on the drawing board here in the states a few years ago. It was going to be a replica of a New York Central 4-6-4 hudson type. The funding never developed.

I don't expect that we shall see it around here in the depths of Norfolk I believe that there are a few other projects like this underway in the UK to resurrect extinct steam locomotive types.

Under Transportation? Why not, Randy? Do you think the mighty Canon A1 not capable of effectively photographing the many modes of transport? (He says with an attempt at false indignation)

In case any of you catch a lens flare from Tornado's LED headlamps - you can blame me - I designed and built them (well, have to have some other hobby as well...)!

Alan,
Thanks for bringing this to the top again. I hadn't noticed this thread before. I remember when this sort of loco ran between Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston. One such was the Red Rose which I think finished in the mid 1960s with the onset of more modern methods of propulsion. Nothing beats a real engine though.
If I see those headlamps I can say I made the post after the person who designed them. Not too many people can say that!

I too missed this post way back when.
I recently watched Jeremy Clarkson on the footplate of "Tornado" on the BBC's Top Gear. He was impressed when they got wheel slip at 70mph!
