Hi Robert and welcome. That's a pretty good start to a collection. You've got some very nice cameras. Have you decided yet if you want to specialise in any particular field, or is anything interesting still grist to the mill?

Hello Robert. You are off to a good start. The Alpa and Nikon are choice centerpieces to any collection. Happy collecting.

Robert -
Welcome aboard. I have been a member for less than a month but have really enjoyed it. You do have some good stuff there - would love to see some closer pictures of that old Nikon rangefinder.
I collect Nikon and Minolta manual focus mechanical SLRs.
Take care, Mark

very nice Robert, its nice to see the young folk with such and interest in the film cameras as well, i dont think i could expect my sons to have the same interest, my young daughter has more interest, so long as it looks 'cute' or appeals to her in some way lol
that nikon does look good, that monster chrome lens is something as well, maybe you or some others here might be able to say. Of what type metal would that be made from? coated in chrome or not?
i got to get me one of those little brick cameras one day, i keep seeing them in the movies ,old and modern!

Holy Mackerel Robert, I've been collecting for over 35 years and still don't have an Alpa or Nikon RF. Great collection, I'm green with envy and then to thrift store find a sweet old RF lens? I only find plastic cr..... lately. Welcome aboard.

OK - Wow. That would easily be the centerpiece of my humble collection!
Nikon Compendium shows that you have a 1954 Nikon S2. You can tell by the RF window size (bigger, brighter than on the M, and S), the brand new film advance crank (before it was only a knob), the fact that you have a retractable rewind crank, and your shutter speed dial is all chrome. These came in black too. There were about 50,000 made.
This camera - if you don't already know - is an absolute jewel.
Regards, Mark

Robert I'd like to add my welcome to the site and say that you are off to a roaring start in camera collecting. I would agree with others that the center pieces of your collection are the Alpa and Nikon S2. I have never seen an Alpa in the flesh but do have an S2 Nikon and can say you will enjoy using it. Just a word of caution, if you don't already know, is to never change shutter speeds on the S2 before you cock the shutter. Always wind on first. I am also going to bet that the 8 buck lens, what a find that find that was, is a chrome on brass Nikon 135/3.5. Heavy as all get out but with a rep for being sharp. To get it complete with the original hood is icing on the cake. You may also have stumbled upon this lens www.cameraquest.com/nr13545.htm . Let us know if you luck was really in and you got the 135/4 version. Bob
