Came across this photo over the weekend. It was taken in October 1979 at the air base at Bardufoss in Northern Norway. A friend shot this photo with the Olympus OM-1 I was using on that trip. Actually we weren't supposed to be taking photos. This is a hanger built inside a mountain. Bardufoss was less than 5 minutes by air from the Soviet Union so they kept their aircraft in underground hangers. The tunnels were actually started by the Germans during WWII when they ised the base to launch air attacks on Allied convoys bound for Russia. The Norwegians later improved them. As you can see, I was a little younger and leaner then. Wayne

Must have been a pretty impressive sight. We had an old CPO in the reserves who had the misfortune to be on some of those Russian bound convoys and could attest to the ferocity of the German air attacks. I always wondered about what those air bases were like. Thanks for posting the photo.
