I've posted several photos from the Nez Perce War battlefield at White Bird in central Idaho. This is my latest variation--taken from a much larger image. I like the simplicity. Wayne

Ah yes. I can just make out the Nez Perce coming over the crest of the hill by the tree. They are going to teach those Johnny-come-lately's a good lesson.

Thanks Mickey and Bob. There's something about it that really appeals to me, too. Talk about despair. I'm not sure it was the tree shown here--but one almost identical--where a dead soldier was found in a standing position--held up by the branches of the tree.
In fact, there was a book written about this particular battle titled "Forlorn Hope" That's an old military term for a suicide mission.
