Friends, I call you friends, because no one I 'actually' know in person would ever understand the excitement here... This is another Craigslist find and quite possibly my luckiest day as a collector yet: Today I got my first FM2n, black - new in the box. Nikkor 50mm f1.8 - new in the box. Zoom Nikkor 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 - new in the box. None of this gear had ever been used and this kind bloke let it all go for $200. The 1986 price tags are still on the boxes: FM2 was $455, the 50mm was $107.50, and the Zoom was $250 - all purchased at a place called Barry's I was so excited that I found it hard not to just yell! Mark
No better condition to find kit in, I can truly understand your excitement. I always thought that the FM series were standout film cameras in the Nikon line. The price was not too hard to take either. Give it a good workout.

Thanks, Bob -
I intend on running a roll through it this afternoon. This model is in the 737xxxx SN range and still has the titanium shutter (newer FM2n's had an aluminum shutter that was touted as being a superior design altogether. Any FM2 sent in for shutter service will get aluminum replacement blades according to Nikon USA). I'm looking around for an MD-12 in good condition now. I was "afraid" to slide the speedlight onto the body - I didn't want to put the tiny tell-tale scrapes on the hotshoe contacts just yet! I need to get over it... it's not like I found a '57 Chevy in some guy's barn or anything. But when you dream of owning one since about 1984...
Take care, Mark

Mark I have two chrome FM2ns and one has the titanium shutterblades and one the aluminum ones. I don't think the one with aluminum blades has had a shutter crate replacement. I suspect the around the time Nikon introduced the F801 they switched the production FM2ns over the aluminum shutter. Again I suspect the shutters in the F801 and later FM2ns were one and the same. I may have even read that somewhere. Finding an MD12 should be easy today and not too costly either. I read a tip in one of Moose Peterson's books concerning the MD11/12. Sometimes the drive lug on the MD is not lined up properly to match up with the camera. I think it is caused by people removing the MD while it still has the power on and shorts the contacts on the MD. Anyway, it is cured by placing a coin over the contacts on the MD and turning the power on briefly. That should reposition the lug properly to mount the MD on the camera. I've had to that once or twice myself so I know it works. I have always believed in using and not abusing my gear so I understand not wanting to unnecessarily mark up a mint camera. Enjoy it. Bob I had to modify my post to change N8008 to F801 as I did some research and came up with this mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fefmshared/honeycomb/index.htm . That is where I must have recalled reading about the change. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused. Bob

I did not test the FM2 yet - instead I took my daughter out "shooting" - her with her X-700 (she's 7 years old) and I with an already-loaded Nikon EL2, and later the F3 with fresh batteries. But, I DID enjoy the lenses. Fun day. FM2 tomorrow maybe. We live 2 blocks from a Walgreens so prints & CDs are easy to be had.
