Here's a shot "lookin down the barrel" of my Kodak Retina Reflex S. It turned 50 this year and still works like it should.

Randy, Schneider optics? Very nice! I have a friend in Scotland who is a pro photographer who uses Cambo large format gear with Schneider glass and swears that Schneider optics are the very best on earth. I didn't know Kodak had an affiliation with them. www.mattlaver.comHappy 50th! Mark

Hi Randy,
My Retina Reflex S has the same lens. I`ve often seen this model equipped with Schneider Xenar 2.8/50, or Rodenstock lenses. The 1.9/50 is the less commom version. There are many interchangable lenses available: 28,30,35,85 and 135mm. As reported, this model had been produced only one year: 1959-1960. Enjoy the camera for the next 50 years !

Hi Randy, I ran into this one yesterday: A 1968 Instamatic Reflex. Its pretty useless, because the 126-Cassettes are no longer available, but it will perfectly fit in to my collection and the price ( appr. 18.- USD ) was also alright. MIK

Mik -
That is very cool. I remember my mother and grandmother shooting on 126 film as a kid. Still have many of the square photographs in my albums. Always seems like the pictures were low quality. Was it the 126 film, or was it the cheaper cameras/lenses? If you shot 126 through a nicer camera like this one, could you expect better results?
Take care, Mark

Hi, I startet myself with a Agfa X-126 Plastic-camera at the age of seven or eight. These pictures have been disastrous blurred, blamed on the cheap plastic-lens. Was this plastic nugget even a lens ? Some people say, that the film in the cassette was not plane enough to take good pictures. Ì have two more 126 SLR`s in my collection: The Zeiss Contaflex 126 and the Rolleiflex SL26, both with interchancheable lenses. From this models have been only about 25.000 pcs built, this format for SLR`s was simply a deathend-street. I took pictures with the Rollei several years ago and they came in very good quality. But for square-dimension pictures i preferred at that time the rolleiflex 2.8. lg MIK

The film plane in the 126 cartridge, wasn't perfect, but cameras using it could still produce good results. The Zeiss Contaflex 126 comes to mind as a high-end example. Never owned a Contaflex, but I did have a couple of the Instamatic Reflexes, and they're pretty good shooters. If you want to buy one, be careful of the battery door - it's the most fragile part of the entire camera.

MIK, If you really want to try out that Kodak Instamatic Reflex, and can get hold of an old 126 cartridge, you can load it with ordinary 35mm film. It has to be done in the dark, of course, but this guy makes it look quite easy. www.jasonsmisc.com/photos-1/instamatic-modYou have to allow for the sproket holes when you're framing your picture. I haven't tried reloading 126, but I have reloaded some 110 cartridges with 16mm cine film. They were quite difficult to get apart, much more so than this guy Jason makes opening a 126 cartridge look - and I've got the scars to prove it! At any rate, his site is well worth a look. PeterW
