the other week i went for a little day trip drive up around the Barossa Valley district , was a beautiful day, just before the hot days of summer had bleached the hills of their green grass. so nice i decided to stop at a little country pub at the outskirts of the Barossa for a pint, and snapped a shot of this ol bike on the way in, parked near the front door.
i got to talking with the owner, he is into these old bikes like you/we are into cameras (pretty much convinced me to get one LOL) and he told me he had not since long finished 'restoring' it, and also told me about all the other bikes he has in his shed etc etc...this one needed to be re-registered with new a number plate (someone was careless and let it expire!) , which [here] involves taking the bike to the main motor vehicles inspection place, where they give it a thoughor going over..as a young bloke "regency park'' as we locally call the main motor vehicle inspection was always a much dreaded facility to be sent to if the cops put a yellow canary [unroadworthy] on your car, you might get sent in for something small but garunteed not be allowed to put your car back on the road until a very long list was fixed!
anyway back to the bike, the guy had some trouble with 'Regency Park' , mechanically it was approved and sound but they wouldnt pass it because they wanted it painted all nice and shiny and new, this guy didnt want it to look all painted up, he wanted it to look, well you know, showing its age if you like..so he kept taking it in trying over and over, hoping to get a different inspector each time, hopefully one might let it slip through..no such luck, he eventually made a big point that the bike is SAFE and it shouldnt matter what it looks like! can you imagine the poor bloke getting hot under the collar! eventually the bosses agreed let it pass though.
he tells me some movie people now want it as background in some flick being produced in the area
he told me the year and model of the bike, i am sure its familiar to a couple of the UK guys, i am sure i remembered the model he siad correctly but i tried searching for it on the net and cant see the name i thought he said..anyone care to guess what model it is
