Holy Smokes Alex, those are some beauties! That Speed Graphic brings back some memories--lugging around a steamer trunk full of gear to crime scenes in my early days as a copper! Sheet film--hours in a darkroom--Man i miss that!
Wait a minute, on second thought---No, I don't! ;D
You could sure do some terrific work with that old beast, tho! Roy

You certainly find 'em, Alex. Very nice additions to your "herd". Do you use Pinto ponies to round 'em up? The Speed Graphic is impressive, but not met with so often in the UK. Right up my collecting alley is the vary smart little Agfa Karat IV. I think yours is one of the last of the Karat IVs, with the Solagon lens, made in 1955 and 1956. In my view it was the best Karat Agfa ever made. Then, when they'd finally got the Karat right, the silly buggers in Munich dropped it in favour of the cheaper Silette range. Probably a good marketing decision, though. Silettes were very popular but, except for the Super Silettes with Solagon lenses, not really aimed at photographers. The bulk of Silettes were accurately aimed at the world and his wife who shot countless transparencies of their holidays, their kids, Aunt Maud, Cousin Doris, Old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all, and then bored their friends to death with interminable slide shows. Mind you, I'm not really in a position to holler. I did it too, and reserved my "serious" photography for black and white (was I really that much of a photographic snob? ) ... until magazines all started to want colour. PeterW

Thanks Roy, Randy, photax, Mickey!
Thank you for the information, Peter!
The Karat was a gift from a buddy for some computer work, best pay ever..haha The PaX was a gift for repairing a friend's canon FD lens. I paid pretty good for the Graflex, but got the tripod(needs cleaning up), flash, camera, and well-worn bag for $100. I paid $25 for the Nikon and $15 for the Minolta.

Neat additions, Alex. If you have never used a Speed Graphic (I have 3 in my collection, along with some 120 backs for them), it will be worthwhile to get some sheet film (if you can find it) and take a few shots. The experience of working with those 4x5 negs is marvelous! I feel sorry for all the digitals out there who have never known what it is like.

Please enlighten this old quill pen/abacus user. Where, what or who is a WOOT?

Hi Mickey ! I think i know the meaning of "WOOT". This word is used by the Online-Gaming Community, or young people in general. It stands for " we owned the other team" . A expression of joy after winning a game. Don`t know if this is true but I read about this accidentally last week... Wow ! An Austrian explains English to a Canadian MIK

photax and alex,
Thanks for the translations.
I keep playing The Camera Collectors Trivia Game but rarely win so WOOT wont do for me there. But because I keep losing I guess I can say with feeling, WOOT.
Truly a useful new word.
