Our last couple of days in France were spent in Normandy, near the beaches and towns of the American landings. This photo is of the monument at La Fiere, near to St Mere Eglise. This was unveiled in 1997. La Fiere is a peaceful little place with a little stone bridge. Members of the 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment and 325th Glider Infantry Regiment took and held this to prevent German reinforcements breaking up the Utah landings. I bet it wasn't so peaceful 66 years ago. Have a good 4th July - especially those of you who are in the USA. We should all spare a thought for those who didn't return all those years ago.
