I think that is the trouble Mickey. I think Andy has tried it, but can't get any reply from them. I tried to join a forum a couple of years ago, but never managed to get that confirmation email, so I gave up on it.

Try this, you missed the www bit: www.rangefinderforum.com/They changed owners some time ago, but they seem to be working OK. Forums busy today The companion site for SLRs has been very quiet lately I suspect migration to Flickr or similar www.dslrexchange.com

Sid it works for me either way - in fact just putting rangefinderforum.com in works too.

Yea i tried my first email which is @aim.com, and nothing happened. It also says on the forum that email addresses that are from yahoo, and some other place would be banned if used since they don't want spammers. So i tried my yahoo email, and sure enough it said i couldn't use that one. So then changed my email to my AOL address, and it said a confirmation email would be sent out to it and i would follow the link, but nothing has been sent anywhere. Unless they only have one guy running the emails at the site and is slower than molasses. Who knows.

Andy, the only other thought, are all your email addresses treating their reply as spam?

Andy, I almost always expect my mail to aol to bounce back. I'm rarely allowed through their security

Well there is definitely nothing in my yahoo account since it said it was "banned." It is not treating it as spam, it just has not shown up.

Perhaps we should all try to join, with a prize for the first one to break in to their inner circle. Alternatively start another one yourself and make it a bit more user friendly.

I was a member at one time but finally quit after disagreeing with some members on privacy rights (in regard to taking people's pictures without permission). I got some really nasty replies from members who believe subjects have no rights. Called me a bunch of names. Decided I didn't need that. Haven't been back since.

Wayne,
It is always difficult, the candid photo. Different countries would seem to have different thoughts on what is permissible. I think much depends on the motives of the photographer and the personality of the subject. When I was in London a couple of months ago there was a "TV personality" out with friends having a meal. I was walking past with my Canon. He saw me, saw the camera and must have thought I was one of the paparazzi. I didn't take a photo of him for a few reasons 1) I would not want to photograph him without asking 2) I wouldn't want to ask because he was, at it were, off duty 3) I would be getting in the way of his friends. Now if he had jumped up and starting dancing on the table I would have photographed him, but then if it had been an ordinary member of the public doing that I would also photograph the event.
I don't believe there is an absolute answer to the problem.
Dave.

I remember those threads and they were nasty. I always thought that just because you had a right it does not mean you have to exercise it all the time. Anyway, sorry you got that treatment at RFF.

"I finally found the cameracollector again! Did you guys change your domain name at some point a couple of years ago??? I missed this place!!
I am pretty active on RFF, and sometimes they are a pretty rough crowd, but for some reason it seems to have toned down in the last year or two. It's also getting a bit too digital oriented for my tastes, but I still like it. I also frequent APUG and Nelson Foto Forum."

Not sure if I'm still a member there but I joined waaaay back when RFF was just starting up as one of the first couple hundred members. Like others here, I got lambasted by a few I considered friends and an idiot I didn't so never been back myself. Dropped most forums although at one time I did almost a dozen, even Ace Photo and Topica but now it's here, The Camera Repair Forum, a few on Yahoo, Photo.net Classic Camera and Flickr. Too many prima donnas on RFF, the artsy wanna bes, the my camera or no other crowd, Leica folk or digital gurus.
