This place was once called 'Fredrickstown' after Frederick Duke of York and Albany .. something new ... the Entertainment Centre ... and something old... The Norwegian Whaling Station...

If it weren't for the lampposts, showing that all is straight, you would think you had severe distortion on the entertainment centre. It's probably not a bad thing that the whaling station is being reclaimed by the sea.

The entertainment center from some views can look very artistic.. but when you realize the towns grain silo is just down the road...what can I say.. That was the first whaling station.. the new one that's the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company closed in 1978.. must dig out some of my pictures of it.

I know I'm getting old and my prejudices are showing, but I don't like the Entertainment Centre at all.
Nothing wrong with the photograph, but the building looks like something from Star Wars or a film of that ilk that has just crashed and broken its back.

It is so out of-place . Would be okay in the capital city but not in the country....

As always with such as the entertainment centre it does force people to have an opinion. It could have been a bland, boring building, functional but not much else. I am not sure if I like it or not. A few years ago there was a competition to design a fourth Grace for the Liverpool waterfront. The winner (and I think it was either Rogers or Foster design) was meant to be a cloud (or something like that). For me it would have looked wrong against the existing Three Graces. Anyway, it wasn't built and just about everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The trouble is building have gone up anyway which possibly are not any better. This is as it was in March 2007. The Three Graces are the buildings to the right.
