I spotted this on a Chinese website. It is based on the old MC W-ROKKOR 17mm/f4 Seagull 17mm f/4-22 11 elements in 9 groups. minimum focus: 250mm Field: 102 degrees. Cost: about US$100 in China. It is quite heartening to see Seagull producing a "new" manual prime. These weren't available when I was last in China (2004). I'm quite looking forward to tracking one down as I don't imagine I'll ever get a genuine ROKKOR 17mm. From what I gather, this lens uses the same famous, 'floating element' design as the ultra-wide Rokkors. Intriguingly, the lens weight is listed at a robust 410g, even heavier than the already healthy 325g for the W-ROKKOR 17mm. I have a Seagull 24/2.8 already. It isn't stunning in its build quality (screen printed f stops on a plastic ring rather than engraved on alloy), but is still capable enough. MT. Michael.
