Though common in the UK boot sales are virtually unknown in this less civilized part of the world.
I attended my very first boot sale this morning. It was put on by the Canadian Photographic Historical Society so there was no need to go pawing through old china, old clothes or, indeed, old boots.
I bought nothing though there was plenty of good, if overpriced, photo equipment.
There were about 30 vendors.
At 38℃ - 100+℉ it was much too hot for this mad dog to be out in the midday sun.
I hope there are more. That will depend upon the success of this one.

Too bad it wasn't in a mall.

We have several car boot sales close to where I live and thousands dotted over the coubtry. I have to say I have only ever been to a couple, and they were when we were on holiday.
The fact that it was all photographic was a big bonus.
Mickey, I presume you didn't sell anything either.
(edited so the first sentence makes sense!)

Mickey, I'm the same. As I have said a while ago I'm not really a collector in that I buy things because I intend to use them, Having bought something I tend to hang on to it. I have given a few things away to people who had more need than I, but I'm sure I've never sold anything. I do know people who usually trade in the previous model when they purchase the next. I've never done that either.
Maybe someday I shall start collecting just for the sake of it.
Dave.

Hi Mickey, I dont know if there is a difference between a Boot Sale and a Flea-market. We have a lot of flea-markets here in the Viennese area and twice a year a photohistoric collector`s market, where cameras are three times expensive. But its a good opportunity to see cameras you`ve never seen before and you meet a lot of interesting people from whole Europe. I did not have much time in recent weeks, but I took home two low priced plate cameras last Saturday ;D. I also never sold a piece of my collection, but I gave some away to friends and other collectors.

Here's a few photo's taken at an english boot sale about 15 years ago - I don't how typical this was then but I would imagine quite so. Most of the goods on sale were rubbish (old tat). Danny

Fairly typical I think, Danny - well of the couple I went to. They were a means of people getting rid of, as you say, their old tat. I'm sure though that there must be 'professional car-booters' who buy stuff in to sell. I've got a couple of photos (no idea where they are) taken about twenty years ago in Cornwall. Memory tells me that they show pretty much the same as yours.
