This is our resident chipmunk who lives in my woodpile. I shot this through the window and screen, it was very fuzzy and washed out, and almost looked like a painting. I worked on it some in photoscape, this was the best I could get it. I think I'll post the original too. Here's the original I haven't got the heart to chop that wood and kick him out of his home, he's been with us for over a year now Doug

I like this, but you might need those logs in the winter. Have you discussed it with the chipmunks? I put the original through photoshop, just using "autolevels". Here's the result: Photoshop does tend to handle this sort of thing quite well.

Thanks Dave! I saved it. I would use photoshop if I could, but photoscape is free and we are, as my old Dad used to say, "Financially embarrassed" at the moment. When I get back on my feet, I'll see if I can't get a copy of the software Doug BTW, Barb says that I should put a couple of logs off to the side for him

Doug,
We only get chipmunks in zoos here. They always seem cute, but do they do much damage?

I have a few chipmunks living around my house and yard, also have lots of grey and red squirrels. Lately i have had two twin fawns around my neighborhood, and they seem to not care about the time of day in which they are out, sometimes morning/evening, sometimes the middle of the day. I have even gotten really close to them to take photos, a few times i have gotten to about ten feet before they ran off.
The animals love being in my yard also because of the woodpile, probably around five or more cords of wood right now!

Andy, We get a lot of critters here as well, they come out of the woods and get into the gardens. We've had quite a few bears moving into the area as well as coyotes. I've seen some coyotes, haven't seen a bear though. You need all that wood, it gets really COLD out there!
BTW, have you ever heard of Frostbite Falls, Minnesota?

Yeah it can get pretty cold here, even though I am only 30 min north of Minneapolis. I would hate to be any further north where it can be really bad. In fact a few days ago it was around 45 in the morning here, up in the Duluth and Ely area it as down to 28!
Is that where Rocky and Bullwinkle live?

There are a couple of chipmunks living somewhere around my house but they are nervous little creatures and the squirrels seem to scare them off into the shrubbery. I have found that those in Edwards Gardens Horticultural park are a little less jittery. If I sit completely still one might grace me with its presence long enough to get a picture. I have never fed them but I am going to try. Perhaps then they will find me more tolerable. Mickey

Here are those two fawns I was talking about. I had to get really close because I was using my 35mm 1.8.

Andy,
They are such beautiful, graceful creatures.

How much better it is to capture them, fawns and chipmunks, with a camera rather than a gun.

Those little chipmunks can be cute. We have one hanging around competing with the squirrels for the peanuts the wife puts out. Never ceases to amaze me how they can get 3 in the shell peanuts in their mouth at one time.
Although I prefer to hunt with a camera now I don't see much wrong with legal hunting.

We are 300 miles north of you and trust me it ain't that bad up here.

Bob,
It's better to hunt with the camera rather than the gun if only because others can then get pleasure out of it. If Andy had shot those fawns dead he might have enjoyed doing it, but we wouldn't. The same I would suggest applies with the chipmunks.
Dave.

At the Scoop Jackson center on the slopes of Mt. Rainier, the chipmunks aren't very afraid of people. In fact, they are aggressive panhandlers.
"Heh, you think that bench is free? You got cheetos? Good, have a seat. Not all day, though."
