I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by a woman from something called the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway project, which is funded by Federal Highway Administration's National Scenic Byway Program. She had been browsing on line and saw my P.net photo gallery which included a shot below of Tolo Lake in central Idaho. The lake was a favorite summering place for the Nez Perce Indians. The woman said they wanted to use the photo on a sign that will be placed in Heritage Square in Grangeville, Idaho. After some dickering we came up with a price for one-time use--not a lot of money but it more than paid for the gas on the trip when I shot the photo. Tolo Lake is about 250 miles from where we live. I would have probably let them use the photo even if they didn't have a photo budget but its nice to get some compensation along with the photo credit. W.

Wayne,
Congratulations on the successful start of a new career.
Peter Gowland had better watch out.

Gowland's "landscapes" had more peaks and valleys than mine

....and it's well worth buying too.
I've given several away, had some in the papers and had a few half inched but I've never actually sold one. There is a sports writer in the North West who does our (Caldy RFC) programmes and I used to send him photos for that. Then I found he was using them in other publications without asking me and without crediting me. I don't send him any photographs at all now.

Way to go Wayne, recognition is always nice especially when accompanied by a little extra something.

Also, well done from me.
Likewise, I've had a few 'half inched' (rather embarrassingly on one occasion) and given some away, but it's been a long while since I was approached to sell one.
